One More Encounter From First Encounter Beach, Cape Cod

Sea monster-armed ventriloquisty guy camped out on First Encounter Beach this summer on Cape Cod. Last summer we came upon this other clown-faced boy.

This one goes out to 13-year-old Tanya C who wrote me this summer and sent one of her mcglinch-inspired drawings, which, if her mom says it's "OK' I'll post up here for you.

First Encounter Beach Clown-Faced Scaredy Boy

Came upon this clown-faced fellow while the family and I were strolling the bay at First Encounter Beach (site of the first Pilgrim-Indian enounter: they both ran away) at low tide. The tide goes way way way way out and then comes back in fairly fast.

I think the guy had tidal shock watching the water rise quickly.

Biking down the shore

I think this is the last of the shore-vacation ink & watercolors. I was lamenting having to wear a helmet down the shore. Riding bikes at the shore since I was young was about freedom. Now that freedom is tainted because we need to set examples for the kids.

I've had my share of bike accidents through the years and it's mostly been elbows, knees and ribs that have taken the brunt of the road or trail. You never know when your head is next and as long as the kids are young and around I suppose I'll keep wearing one.

There may be a window of opportunity between the kids being grown and the grandkids that I can taste full freedom again.

Optimistists or Fools?

I did this last week and now am trying to understand whether I think children are eternal optimists or fools for thinking they'll get different results with the same behavior year after year. Am I just a crabby old man or am I just calling them like I sees them?

Beach Chair Hell

For a few years now we've had these beach chairs with high backs that allow me to fall asleep in the chair while reading the book without my head falling over. The Mrs. picked up a couple of new chairs and I tried one of these out on the first day. It's one of those ones that are supposed to allow you to lie flat on your back and snooze away. However, my big head just flopped over the edge and rested on the sand. Every other person seems to use these things with little to no effort but it just doesn't work for me. I kicked my son out of the old reliable chair and went back to business.

Down the shore

An oldie from a few years ago when I used to be a nice father and put cartoons in the kids' lunches. Now I'm just old and mean. Heading down the shore -- hope to get rejuvenated on the drawing front.
