Archives: Gray Scale Study

Part of my ongoing digging through the rubbermaid tub of stuff that I kept from high school and college days. I think this one was from my painting class at Temple U or just something I did at home. Some kind of bowl or vessel filled with black liquid, coffee? Rough but I like the light.

Coffee Stain Conference Call Nightmare

My mind has been slipping in so many ways these days. Last week I left the house without my filled coffee travel tumbler. After dropping the kids at school I returned home (now that the cost of the gas to return home is less than it would have cost me to buy a fresh 20 oz. at Wawa ) and retrieved it.

After settling in at work, I proceeded to apply a forearm to the the tumbler and dumped many ounces over various notepads and documents.

An early morning conference call today provided the perfect block of time to reveal what was hidden in those coffee stains.

Coffee Stain Alien Flipper Boy

When I was growing up, there was a boy who showed up one day for football tryouts. He had big hollowed-out eyes the color of coffee stains and flippers for hands. He didn't make the team and neither did I.

We commiserated but didn't become friends. I could never get over his coffee hollow stare and the slimy fishy smell of his flipper hands.

Coffee Stain Boy

Found the right coffee stain from my mug on the notepad for this lad's hair. The result kind of reminds me of my red-headed brother when he was a kid.

Off to Work: Another Day, Another Day

Realized this morning that this might make a good Valentine sketch -- trudging off to work, realizing all of a sudden, in an eye-opening way, that it's Valentine's day.

Sketched this while I was depositing checks online the other night. It's a tedious slow-going process of scanning in the checks, both sides, then uploading them 'just right' to the bank website. Benefit is that money is there instantly and I avoid mailing the checks to Texas and wondering if anyone will have their way with them before they get there.

Meet My Monkey

Meet my coffee monkey.

Until I returned to work from a 9 month hiatus 2 years ago (oh, sweet hiatus, I miss you so), I kept coffee to after-dinner/lunch time to go with special treats (cake, cookies, pie, ice cream, and on and on). Throughout all my years of working prior to that, mornings were for OJ and afternoons were for H2O.

My last job put an end to that. Coffee was a morning and afternoon ritual for 'our gang' that I fought hard against but eventually crumbled. Was the 'need to belong' or the 'need for a stimulant' to keep me awake. Whatever, they got me -- now it's me and my monkey... and the mrs. (she's always been a coffee fiend).
